Privacy policy
Packmile tracks rucks and weighted vest walks. This page explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have. You don't create an account, and we don't sell your personal information.
Information that stays on your phone
- Your body weight and units, used to work out calories.
- Your load setups (for example "Vest 30 lb") and settings such as chime distance, drink reminders and sounds.
- Your rucks: date, time, distance, duration, climb, load, calories and, for outdoor rucks, the route as a list of map points.
- The ruck in progress, saved every few seconds so it survives the app being closed.
All of this is stored in the app's private storage. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else. You can delete a ruck in the app; uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes everything.
Location
For outdoor rucks Packmile asks for location permission while the app is in use. It reads your location only while a ruck is recording, including with the screen off, and shows an ongoing notification ("Recording your ruck") the whole time. Location stops when you pause or end the ruck. Packmile does not ask for background location, does not track you between rucks, and never sends your location anywhere. Indoor and walking-pad rucks don't use location at all.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Packmile is free and shows an optional rewarded video (to open the 12-week load ladder) and an occasional full-screen ad after you close a ruck summary, through Google AdMob. Ads never appear during a ruck, and there are no banner ads. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect:
- your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers,
- approximate location derived from your IP address (not your GPS location),
- information about how you interact with ads, and basic device and app information.
Your rucks, routes and body weight are never shared with Google AdMob. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Packmile under Settings > Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Android settings.
Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
No analytics
The Packmile app does not include any analytics or tracking SDK besides the advertising described above. This website does not use analytics or cookies, and its fonts are served from this site.
The teaser video on the home page is hosted on YouTube. It loads only when you press play, and YouTube may then set its own cookies under Google's privacy policy.
Health information
Calorie numbers are estimates from the Pandolf equation using the inputs you give. Packmile is a training log, not a medical device, and it does not connect to Health Connect or other health services.
Children
Packmile is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you, contact us below.
Data security and retention
Data sent to Google's advertising services travels over encrypted connections and is kept according to Google's policies. Data on your device stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Your choices
- Use Indoor / walking pad mode, or deny location permission, to ruck without location.
- Delete any ruck from its summary screen.
- Change ad consent in Settings > Ad privacy choices (where offered).
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings.
- Delete all local data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date.
